cooling fan problems
the radiator fan works when I turn on the A/C so I know the motor is good. the fan used to come on when the engine got warm. now it doesn't. there has to be something that sense's the engine temperature.

Ford Shop Manual says only that, "The Fan Temperature Switch is located in the lower intake manifold. Nothing more. I'll try to find an answer for the temp.gauge, but that will take poring over 8 or more big sheets of wiring diagrams, maybe. Meanwhile, here is the complete electric fan wiring schematic.
The cooling fan controller is located under the instrument panel between the steering column and A-Pillar. It has 8 connections. wired thus:
1. 687 to cooling fan temp. switch
2. + from 18 ga fuse link
3. to PCM (computer) # 54
4. ground
5. + to cooling fan
6. to A/C clutch cycling pressure switch
7. to A/C clutch field coil AND PCM # 10
8. + from ign. switch, HOT IN RUN
DOES THIS HELP YOU? imp

It may not be the same; that I dunno. But, three temperature "things" are going on: Coolant temp. for gauge on dash, coolant temp. for computer use, and coolant temp to turn on the fan. That last one will most likely be a separate switch, because they want a fairly large "spread" or differential between on and off cycles, to extend fan motor life. The other two uses could be done with one sensor. The fan switch is pictured a few inches below the oil pressure sender unit, in the block it looks like. The temp. gauge sending unit is most often located right behind the water outlet containing the thermostat, in the intake manifold. imp
