What amount of reliable power with a budget build?

Well after having fun and reaching my 1/8th mile goal with my 302 im up to no good because im considering these 2.3L motors :) Now with that said my 1/8th mile goal on just motor was 8.56 so im not talking like I have a bad ass 302.

With that said.. with a basic buildup...(ported head i guess is a good idea with these motors? and to be 100% sure that you have the forged bottom end?) and somelarger injectors, what kinda power can these motors make? How high will the stock turbo boost? Can you run 20lbs of boost on the stock turbo with larger injectors and tuning? I'm thinking of building one of these motors on the side and throwing it into a fully guttedcoupe.

Please tell me a little about these motors and what they're capable of. I'm very interested in investing some money to finding one of these motors in a salvage yard and fixing it up.

We need to know more informaiton really.

Are you starting with a factory engine? What year? Which stock turbo is on it? What color are the injector tops?

The reason i ask, is they changed from year to year, some got a more aggressive computer, bigger injectors, turbos, all kinds of variations.

You can get the engine and car into the 9's with a load of mods, but turn the boost and timing up and you can run 14's or lower all day

What they're capable of? Joe Morgan dynoed at 1200+ hp (it's a full on race car w/sponsorship).
In the real world, 300 hp is the norm for street beaters. Lots of guysin the 400-500 hp range also. The amount of power is limited only by your budget. For somemore detailed answers to your questions, visit www.turboford.org

In the meantime, peruse the following links.
10's in the 1/4 on a 300,000+ mile bottom end. Gotta luv it!

Or, how about into the 8's and it's street legal!

Uh, I know a guy at a racetrack I go to who without a turbo (and ristricted somewhat) managed to have a 2.3 L hit about 150 hp... that's up from 88.... Bottom end=reliability, heads=hp. Polish, port, plane (head and block),racing cam, crank, rods, pistons bearings, apparently this guy had a titanium valve job or something of the like... he put over 6 grand in the head of the motor alone. I can try to get in touch with him and ask him what he did as well.

They really need to do a project on a 2.3L stang on horsepower TV. That would be a good project.
