SVO I-4 TURBO
i post in the v6 section all the time but a friend of mine his step dad had a I-4 turbo and he bought it from him for 4000 and its in perfect condition interior is excelent and motor runs great (miles ??) but he called me earlyer and told me he has a problem when he shifts to go into 1st gear the shifter has to touch the dash to get into 1st and to get into 2nd its just as bad but going the other direction and 3rd and 4th are bad but not as bad as 1st and 2nd
any idea what could be wrong i told him it may be the shifter adjustment bolt/nut on the front and rear of the short throw
and what kind of maintnace should he be worried about as far as timing belt turbo bearings rings head gaskets any thing like that
and im personaly wondering he told me that the motor has all forged internals from factory is that true and how much boost does that run stock
any hel would be appriciated thanks

RE: SVO I-4 TURBO
How much boost depends on the egine being used (some had 10 stock, others had up to 15)
The timing belt should be changed every 75k - 100k miles. The turbo should last a long time as long as when he changes the oil he disconnects the coil and primes the system (turning the key to start and letting the engine turn over 10 sec. then let the starter cool and do it once more)
To see if the turbo needs a rebuild he should 'wiggle' the shaft and if it feels like there is a lot of play. Time for a rebuild.
Now time for the shifter... It seems like its out of possision. Like the adjustment bolts on it are missing or something.
One last thing, we don't call them I-4's lol
