so i put a cold air on my car... a 3" and when i started the car it dies like right after... so if i start it and rev it alittle so it wont die it fixes its self and idles for like 5 mins and just dies... wtf? i have the stock maf and a cone filter on it... any ideas?

sleeper_inc 09-20-2007 09:20 PM

RE: c.a.i

Adjust your idle screw a bit till it starts and stay running on its own. You might have a leak[&:]

alboy91lx 09-20-2007 09:22 PM

RE: c.a.i

its wierd cuz if i have the maf pluged in but it not on the intake it will run.... but nce i put the maf back on it starts to run like **** and dies....

sleeper_inc 09-20-2007 09:27 PM

RE: c.a.i

Thats because it can't deal with the amount of air passing by it, at that fast of pace. IDK but maybe you should put the stock stuff on and see if it changes anything. If not clean the MAF

mopman93 09-20-2007 09:27 PM

RE: c.a.i

make sure the maf isnt blocked by anything, if you put your hand in front of a maf you can stall a car, so make sure theres enough room between the maf and the filter so that its getting significant air.

alboy91lx 09-20-2007 09:30 PM

RE: c.a.i

****! this sucks! do any of you guys have a c.a.i on a maf car?

sleeper_inc 09-20-2007 09:32 PM

RE: c.a.i

I know 93 lx 86 gt had one on his car before he sold it, now if only he would come in here[>:]

Also I think he used 2.5" plumping

al_ngl 09-20-2007 09:32 PM

RE: c.a.i

I've seen one on here before. He had his MAF relocated to right in front of the TB though, so maybe that will work better for you.

al_ngl 09-20-2007 09:33 PM

RE: c.a.i

Yeah 3" sounds a bit big.

sleeper_inc 09-20-2007 09:34 PM

RE: c.a.i

2.5" Is for MAF and 3" is for turbo or SD cars I would hope/think:eek:

al_ngl 09-20-2007 09:36 PM

SD?

Lol I hope that doesn't happen to me when I work on mine this Sunday.

alboy91lx 09-20-2007 10:10 PM

RE: c.a.i

this sucks cuz my buddy used my old thing and he cut it up to us on his truck... and it is all ****ed up... so any idea's? i just tried a little part by putting the maf right at the t/b and put a filter on it... it sounded hella cool but didnt go anywere... lol

sleeper_inc 09-20-2007 10:14 PM

RE: c.a.i

Hmmm... I really don't know what to say except try putting the air filter on the MAF and put it up front with the air filter right on it

alboy91lx 09-21-2007 12:53 PM

RE: c.a.i

thats what i did and the car ran like a four banger mustang or somthing... lmao.... this is what it is know... runs way better than stock...

sleeper_inc 09-21-2007 01:03 PM

RE: c.a.i

So does it run better now? Even though its heat soaked?

alboy91lx 09-21-2007 03:40 PM

RE: c.a.i

it runs alot better... and whats funny is that pipe is 3 inch too... but it runs with that one and not the other... and on my air fuel gauge under full throttle my car runs richer than it did before with the stock intake... wouldnt it run a little leaner or is the computer making up in fuel for the more air?

I dont see how people get off by calling those CAI's?? Yeah there is a cone filter on there getting better air flow and all.... but it still doesnt make it a CAI, you are still sucking in warm air from the engine. If it went into the fender well, it would be considered a CAI....

MustangGuy93 09-21-2007 08:07 PM

RE: c.a.i

Dude, get some more pipe and throw that filter in the fender well. Put it through that big hole next to where your stock airbox used to be (that's what it's made for). You'll see a difference (i did).

sleeper_inc 09-21-2007 08:18 PM

RE: c.a.i

+1 on putting it in the fender well

hellion_79 09-21-2007 08:44 PM

RE: c.a.i

See even people will agree that the filter in the fender well will make more power. And sleeper I am wondering.... why didnt you put it through the fender well?

alboy91lx 09-21-2007 08:56 PM

RE: c.a.i

i was gonna do it but i dont have that inner fender well thing so if it rains my **** will get messed up... i could build a box around it so the tires do throw rain on it....

fordsbestcar 09-21-2007 09:41 PM

RE: c.a.i

the ones that had it designed in the fender well was genius. but yeah trying to do it through the fender well if it wasn't their b4 is risky b/c of water.

alboy91lx 09-21-2007 10:41 PM

RE: c.a.i

thats all that is stoping me from doing it... unless i build somthing in there to block water or just get a fender well plastic black thingy from a junkyard...

fordsbestcar 09-21-2007 10:44 PM

RE: c.a.i

lol nice fender well plastic thingy.

RE: c.a.i

Water wont get into the filter when its in the fender well, When i had mine I have the filter all the way to the bottom and you could see the filter if you looked in front of the car at a low angle but if you have it up a couple of inches before it comes out, you wont suck up water unless you go through a bigass puddle. But to get cold air and not water into the intake.... just have the right through the the hole and seal the rest of the hole off so you are sure you are only sucking in cold air

92lxsleeper 09-22-2007 09:17 AM

RE: c.a.i

thats a short ram intake.

and did it come with a plate to go inbetween the filter and the mass air flow meter, that had a square opening on it instead of a circle. i have the same filter and adapter package. if u have the square MAF adapter, take it off, thats what it is cause it did the same thing to my car. plus, do you have the temperature sender hooked up? it was thatsensor that was in the stock intake box. put that into your new intake. You need that too.

I was going to but I had to cut it short (shop wanted another $20 to bend it all like that) I was going to geat some 3" PVC pipe and have a 90* elbow and then another 90* elbow to make the filter sit in there all nice and that then I found the turbo engine and I said **** it;)

alboy91lx 09-22-2007 01:46 PM

RE: c.a.i

that might work... the temp sender thing i havent had for ever.... what does that thing do any ways? is it nessesary?

92lxsleeper 09-22-2007 02:10 PM

RE: c.a.i

it tells the computer how hot or cold the incoming air is gonna be so it can adjust the fuel mixture appropriatly.

yo that valve cover is sweet, where'd u get that.

yah? you knockin my sh*t lmao (I have the same set up)
Wrong if the tube is long enough it goes closer to the fan...Therefore getting colder air from the fan also known as Intaking Cold Air so that is where we get off Calling them CAIs

I dont really know why I just did that mines pulled more near the fender anyway. well was..I haven't got it secured yet

pwnd!!!! :):) I wish
