T-5 question
Getting ready to do a t-5 swap into the 89 2.3 turbo. I have a n/a t-5 that needs rebuilt, i also have a 5.o t-5 that needs rebuilt. Of course it needs to handle around 300 horse. What is my best bet here? Should I get rid of both and get a turbo coupe t-5?

RE: T-5 question
First, the 5.0 T-5 trans WILL NOT WORK. Why? The input shaft is too long, and can damage the snout on the crank, to solve this, you have to buy a bushing(not a bearing), and as everyone knows, bushings must be oiled every 50k miles, or else they will blow up, and problems happen. Bad problems.
The n/a and turbo tran's were no different in holding capacity. The only difference was the n/a 2.3 T-5 and the turbo coupe t5, was the first gear, gearing. The turbo coupe weighed in a lot more, so, it was geared lower, to be able to take off, on all 80 ft lbs of the 2.3(no boost = n/a, launch = no boost).
Does this help? If you need to rebuild them, that is simple, it is like 200 dollars for a total rebuild on those trans. Be sure to spend an extra 200 on top of that, and get a nice hurst/b&m/mac shifter, ok? you will enjoy that much better, than the slopy stock one.

RE: T-5 question
any 4/8cyl car after 87 had the t5, i believe. I don't know about the v6. As far as it goes, just rebuild each trans, and sell the 5.0 trans. You will get mroe for it, and could possibly cover the cost of both rebuild kits, and break even(saying you do the rebuilds yourself, or a friend who can).
Other than that, uhm. I guess you could change the input shafts, but that is just too much work, to be worth it, since you already have a 2.3 bellhousing/input shaft combo trans already.
