Default New here was told this was where to ask

I am new to the mustang / ford I recently bought a 88 with a 4 cyl it has 88,000 on it and is in great shape inside and out, My question is when you shift it into drive it , kinda kicks -loud clunk and lunges once in gear it drives fine it is just the droping into gear. I was told maybe a motor mount was bad. thanks for any input Bill

Mine dose the same thing.

Check to see what the motor mount and transmission mount look like, if they look fine then more likley than not you have a internal seal leak inside the transmission.

oh crap, mine does the same when i put it in to reverse and a little kick when i put it in Drive. I really hope it's the mount and not a seal leak. if it is I'm gonna beat the crap outta the guy who put the the trans in it when the original blew the front seal. and where exactly are the mount at on a fox?

Mine cost me $1300. I would seriously look into putting a manual in it though 'cause the A4LD is going to crap on you in another year. Unless you get a performance A4LD from specialty tranny shops, and that will cost you more than you paid for the car.

Sorry for the thread jack richardson.

The seal is a common leak, they always leak and cause the issue.

Just drive it till it craps out because the leak is in the valve body

Actually when they rebuild mine they fixed the leaky valve body, I don't know what they did but it doesn't leak. They did have to enlarge some hole, I think in the torque converter so that mine would stop blowing front main seals.

Since the other shifts are fine other than the initial putting it into first makes me think it's either low on fluid or your problem is related to the bushings in the rear suspension being bad or engine mount, rather than a valve body problem.
