What is involved to swap in a 5 speed manual ?

if the oil is black, change it, bring it somewhere to get a full fluid flush. or unhook the cooler line that is pressurized to the radiator and let it drain into a bucket, while keeping it full (while its running). its possible that these problems will go away with a fluid and filter change

well, if you need it to be rebuilt, make sure you have $1000 sitting around to spend on it. I had one that went out, had no forward gears, but would go in reverse. Seems like i spent just over $800 for a rebuild and new (re-manufactured) torque converter.

i did a full rebuild on mine, i spent a little over $600 on it, with a remanufactured convertor for a little under $200 from Autozone. Its not impossible, but if you arent willing to do it yourself, be ready to pay out the a** to have it done

yeah, and besides, for probably less than that you can put the t5 in instead. it will take a little longer, but its definitely worth it. not only is it more fun to drive, you'll notice more power from your engine and its much stronger than that crappy a4ld trans.

i considered this, and there is no way you can just go and buy parts for a 5sp swap and have it be cheaper than what i did. you would have to have a donor car sitting next to you with a 5sp already in it for it to be cheaper.

yeah, but you can get everything you need from a junk yard. or find a car that has been in an accident, as long as the drive train is good, it can be pretty cheap.
