to build the 2.3T head or not to build
hey, ok I've got my block all wrapped up an done..and working on the head. New cam bearings installed..ready for my .422 lift cam..and Im going to get the valve seats recut..and put new valves in..So any comment on beefing it up? Bigger valves..porting..etc components of "building" the head. Curious of what gains anyone has seen with some mild building an stuff. Im not lookin for a monster..just something that gives that added reassurance when next to that v8 in a line up......................thanks

I do not have any personal experience yet, but as you know any increase in airflow is going to help, bigger valves, porting and polishing the head, unshrouding and blending the valves, porting the intake and exhaust manifolds, etc. Although doing just one or two of these things will help, you will obviously see the biggest difference by doing all of them as once you finish with one, the other will be holding everything back. Larger valves will only be able to flow so much if the rest of the head is bogging the airflow down. Bo at http://www.bo-port.com/ would be the most ideal person to talk to. Also, be sure to install hardened valve seats on the exhaust side as any valve work done will pretty much eliminate the factory hardening.

A cheaper/ more bang for the buck alternative would be to get a set of our high flow stock size valves and do a little porting in the bowls. That will make more of a flow/power difference than slamming a big valve in and calling it good. In some cases you can make the head flow worse by putting in larger valves without the associated hand blending of the bowls and short turn to make them work.
