Default having issues with my 89 mustang 2.3L please help

I was driving 40 miles per hour and lost all power. while in park or in neutral the rpm's is fine. when driving my top speed is 20 miles per hour, on jack stands my engines rpm's are fine and the engine runs smooth. is this a transmission problem? My transmission is the A4LD please help.

My first thought was a possible plugged catalytic converter. A plugged cat is more noticible under engine load. That could be why the engine runs okay in park, nuetral or on jack stands but boggs down under load. It could also be a fuel delivery problem as well or a sensor that regulates the fuel under load. If you have access to an OBD I code reader give that a try too. The early computers won't give you all the answers but they usually give you a starting place. If no codes I would check fuel delivery or plugged cat.

Well its 100% not the cat. And I've been working on trying to get a obd1 reader but money is real right right now. I'm almost sure its not fuel issues or a sensor but I'm thinking its a transmission problem im thinking maybe the torque converter. Thanks for your thoughts.

well it was lol yes i drove it everyday for the past 6 years always took pretty good care of it! I got the code reader and no codes were present. I'm really leaning towards bad torque converter
