Default Alternator issue

93 lx my alternator went out today, I replaced it and the. Battery gauge is dead and the battery light is still on , I unhooked the battery cable and the car dies. Can anyone help me with this issue

Sounds like new alternator is bad. I would take off and have tested. Second it is a bad idea to disconnect battery with engine running. I know people have done it for years. Reason it is a bad idea is if alternator is good it will go to full charge. That can be over 14vdc or more. That voltage can take out computer, radio etc anything electronic. And now there is a lot of electronics. Maurice

Thanks it was a bad alternator the diode was bad but that's what u get with reman
