Default Ignition?, Starter?, help

This year especially, when it gets cold out and the car has sat overnight, the starter will start the car, and then briefly grind on the flywheel because it doesn't retract fast enough. I replaced the starter tonight, and the car started up real fast, and was fine the first couple of times or so. The fourth start, the starter stayed engaged while the car was running and continued to make the grinding noise. After about 10 sec of this, I turned the key off, but ironically the engine was still turning over (starter was still moving), but without any spark. When I turned the key back to the run position the engine started right up, and the starter continued to grind a bit. Then finally it spun out of the engaged position. I turned the car off, and then started it up again and it worked fine. I bought a rebuilt starter from Duralast, but what he hell is the problem. Is the starter bad again, or is there a problem with the ignition/starting problem, or battery cables or what?

I think it's the starter relay that is ony 11 bucks, and I don't know where it is yet. Hey what was that recall about, I remember the hood but what was the ignition recall? And does the starter relay seem like the most likely bid?

Try the relay its a cheap fix if thats it, if not it sounds like some electrically is getting stuck... don't leave your car on too long if its grinding like that, im not sure but i almost guarentee you can break some teeth of the flywheel or starter...
