Default timing setting for built motor?

whats up now? i have been tinkering with my timing lately. i set it at 15 degrees and it felt great and then i reset it again, barely twist towards aqdvance. still no pinging. i was wondering what suggestions you all have on my setting. like where it should be? i have a built 347 with edlebrock vic. jrs. with 2.05 valves and flattop pistons, E cam, and gt-40 intake. i have msd dist. and 6aL. 75mm tb and maf. 24lb injectors. please help me im a lost kid in the jungle on timing.

with all that done your best bet is to get it dyno tuned. total timing isnt what makes the most power its having a good timing curve and thats not something you can adjust with the dizzy

yea thats my next project, after a get a good basic tuneup, i think im going to go with a delta chip from diablo, i heard the sn95 eec could make good use of one. but what would be a good temporary setup? till i get the tune.

I agree with leaving the timing at 12 until properly tuned. Someone made a point on another thread that you can't always hear the pinging.

Did you buy the MSD distributor??? Did you have the engine builder set it up with the proper springs to set the advance curve? You have to get the computer tuned by a pro also. Typically it runs nearly $500 for Dyno tune, and computer chip burning.
