WITH OR WITHOUT EGR

RE: WITH OR WITHOUT EGR
The EGR valve is the main emissions control component in the exhaust gas recirculation system. The valve is located on the intake manifold, and opens a small passageway between the exhaust and intake manifold to allow a metered amount of exhaust to flow back into the engine. This reduces combustion temperatures and helps control the formation of oxides of nitrogen. The EGR valve is opened by the application of vacuum to its control diaphragm. Some also require a certain amount of exhaust back pressure before they'll open. On newer vehicles, the valve is electronic and uses one or more solenoids or a small stepper motor. The valve should remain closed while the engine is cold and at idle. It should only open once the engine has warmed up and is running at part-throttle. If the valve sticks shut (or is disconnected), NOX emissions will soar and detonation will often result. If it sticks in the open position or fails to close all the way, it acts like a vacuum leak resulting in a rough idle, hesitation and possible stalling. I have repaired many cars that have failed emissions for NOX due to a faulty or inoperable valve. In all honesty, you really don't gain ANYTHING from removing it from the system.

RE: WITH OR WITHOUT EGR
I just want to clean up the engine bay. I know what it does, I just don't need it. I just wanted to know if I could unplug it without problems. If you remove it properly you won't have any idle problems or horsepower gains, just a cleaner look. And I always say, it if you don't need why have it...

RE: WITH OR WITHOUT EGR
im just getting a new intake manifold for my car that doesnt have the egr on it so all i need is a carb riser in place of the egr plate. mine is already disconnected because it was sh*t and didnt work so it doesnt matter on a carbed car as much as fuel injection thats why i love my mustang so easy to work with.

RE: WITH OR WITHOUT EGR
You also forgot that when the EGR valve is open the computer adds more timing to the car bc the extra fuel the computer is calculating in the recirculated gas. The gases have fuel and yes I do know what it is used for. But what is the point to have it if the vaccum line going to the valve isnt hooked up. It cant work if it doesnt have the vaccum from the intake now can it. NOOOOOOOO

RE: WITH OR WITHOUT EGR
The whole reason I asked the question is for help on finding out what I need to do if I removed the sensor. Will it hurt anything bla bla bla. If I need a simulator or not, which I do if I unhook it. My egr is bad, I need a new one, don't want to buy one, think they look bad. Thanks for the help though. Guess I will just try everything out myself when I get my car out.
