fuel pump loud?
hello again everyone. thanks for the replies to my first post. ok i just purchased my first mustang. it is a 1992 lx 5.0 and it seems like the fuel pump is kinda loud. you can hear a whining sound if you stand behind the car while it's running. my money is on a fuel pump about to die. what kind of money am i looking at to replace it? and what would be a good, quiet replacement. the only thing i want to hear out of the back of that car is the beautiful sound of V8.

RE: fuel pump loud?
ok. if the fuel pump dies will it cause any damage to the engine by any chance? (like if i were driving it and all of a sudden it decided to kick the bucket?) would it make the engine lean out and fry something? or would it just shut off? also. what kind of work am i looking at to replace it. i am not mechanically retarded, i grew up helping my dad work on his muscle car projects. and i really want to learn more and do everything i can. thanks for the help guys. when i learn i will make sure to share my knowledge like you guys have done for me.

That is in fact very normal for these cars. I have equal length shorties going to an o/r h pipe into original 40 series flows with dumps and i can easily hear my fuel pump whine when stopped at red lights. Hell i had nothing but the stock catted midpipe on my car with no mufflers for a month and i could still hear it whine then. It has performed perfectly for thousands of miles as well. Just get louder exhaust or turn up the radio and forget about it!
