I'd use some 'non-drying' prussian blue on the ends of the rods/bolts and turn it so the rods stop agianst the block and the mark it. You do this several times but it would be a way to mark things without the tool...

i'm looking to do a 331 build... is it juts the block that you buy it from and the company that you buy the block from can pre-do it right?
