Default Vacuum ports on a thermostat housing?

We are having a discussion on the classic section, and a member says he has vaccum ports on his thermostat housing. Obviously we are all stumped by that, but it may be an engine from the mid 70's. Any input to help clarify this? Thankee guys.

Yeah, the older ones had them. Some operated the timing for the advance. Others operated egr and some other functions as well.
