Default Motor Mounts??? Bad?

Hey guys,

Well, i recently took out my engine and replaced most of the oil gaskets and clutch, and as it turns out, my motor mounts are shot. What happens if i dont replace them??? Or is it just the slight shaking of the engine (which i kinda like, lol)

And is it possible to replace them without completly removing the engine again? I mean can i just lift the engine up a tad with a jack and then just swap em out?

And last question.... do the convertable mustang MM fit, and what are the advantages?

yes all you have to do is lift or jack the engine to change the motor mounts. i'll be doing mine in about a week.

The convertible mounts will work if I remember correctly... They are stiffer than the stock coupe mounts hence the better transfer of torque.

What I have done in a pinch is to place 2X4 or 4x4 on the saddle of the jack and then use that across the bottom of the oil pan. It is not the best nor the safest way, but it works and it didnt hurt my oil pan. I would not suggest leaving it that way for any length of time, but if you do one side and then the other you should be alright. Just jack the engine up slowly.

When i changed my motor mounts all i did was hooked a chain from my power steering bracket to the back on one of my smog pump tubes lifted it just a little bit, the changed the old ones out for new ones, pretty simple swap that took about an hour, it should take you less time because i had to grind my passenger mount off because the bolt was stripped, it was just spinning in my motor mount, good luck

I was replacing motor mounts today, following instructions from http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...n/index6.shtml.
On step 4, I could not take off the block to mount bolt, my 1/4 Inch drive universal joint cracked and is broken. I soaked the bolt in wd-40, but it would not give. Any advice?

They do fit, but they're still rubber. I decided to go poly all the way--motor mounts, tranny mount, crossbar bushings..... Dallas mustang had the poly motor mounts for $90 when I got them last summer....tranny is $25 pretty much anywhere.
