Default Anyone running AFR 185 on stock motor

I emailed AFR and told them what kind of heads would be idea for my stock 302 with all of my upgrades. He said that the AFR 165 competition package would be the best, and they come with the upgraded springs. They cost 1,747 dollars. I was looking at the 185's with has a better everything, and theyre cheaper than the 165's that the guy recommended. So i was wondering if anyone had problems with running the 185's on a stock 302. I have an e303 cam and hyperutectic pistons, trick flow track heat intake, and a bunch of other mods.

The 165's would be best for your application but you should not have any problems running the 185's. Thats what I would do...

I don't know if the 2.02 valves on the 185's would have clearance issues or not. The guy at AFR said the 165's (1.94?) could have problems at .530....

If your thinking that route maybe try this guy's ported heads and a supercharger

I have a rebuilt 308 with speedpro hyper pistons and AFR 185 heads, no problem with valve clearance, but the stock pistons will hit the valve.
they were the best mod I ever did.
if you get them, you will lose some low end torque because of the big valves, but it makes up for it in top end power.

any new head should be checked for piston to valve clearances before assembly.

if you have a stock short block they wont work. 2.02 intake and 1.60 exhause valve, you will need to notch pistons. the 165's are good heads i say go with them.
