Default Buying the AFR 165's 3 quick questions

Pedestal mount or stud mount?
58cc or 61cc combustion chamber?
Emissions legal or non emissions legal? I think that the non emission ones are better because ports are bigger, and better for
superchargers.
I can have any set up i want for
the same price

I believe the ports are the same regarless of the emissions.

Go google for a compression ratio calculator and type in your spec to see what compression you want to run comparing the 61 or 58cc chambers.

Pedestal mount type is for the type of rockers that come on the 5.0s stock. If lash isn't correct shim under the springs need to be installed.

Stud mounted rockers are found on Chevys and older Fords. These are easier to adjust the lash with.

86HOGT, would u mind explaining the lash? I was under the impression that pedestal rockers really didnt need to be adjusted, as the stud mount ones do...

Well with any aftermarket head, machining stock or what not, the valvetrain geometry may change. Now if he ends up being too short in the pushrod, he'd need to add shims or buy different length pushrods.

With stud mounted rockers you can take a litle bit of slack out of it and adjust lash.

Lash the play between lifter, pushrod, rocker, and valve.

Usually all hydraulic cams are adjusted to zero, then a 1/2 or 1/4 turn tighter. It's solid cams that have a certain spec to be adjusted to.

The emission legal heads will have AIR pump ports in the back of the heads and have EGR ports.

it doesnt matter if you get emission legal heads or not. if you dont have emissions and you get the legal heads, you will need to plug up the air lines but thats no big deal

I still have my egr and smog pump, would this be a factor on which type of heads i get (emission legal or non emission legal) Are there any hoses or anything the runs to any of these heads?
