in the 85 5.0 the torque capacity was only 265 lbs. the trans id # for that tranny is 1352-126 and that is found on the aluminum tagthat is bolted to the extensin housing. the ideal years for the stock tranny is between 90 and 93. they have more torque capacity which is around 300 lbs. the id #'s are 1352-199 and 1352-208. if you are serious then buy a tremec and be done with it.

yes yes yes....listen to Buzzstang....he is right. in 1990 - 93s the torque capacity was much better and so where some of the inner replacements. (the Z series). DONT go with anything under 1990 for that '85 stang. --- I have the article on the testing and differences ... let me know if you need the specifics and I'll dig up the article.

I found the article re: the T5 - The best one you can probably bolt into that fox body that version. You can upgrade and existing one with a kit from D&D performance (PN AK1) or you can get one from (which would probably be better) FRPP aftermarket heavy-duty unit that you can ALSO get from D&D (or any other FRPP dealer) but make sure it'sthe (PN M-7003-Z).
