I know there is tag on the back of the rear but how do you know what gears you have in the rear what do all the numbers mean

A way you can get a close idea without opening up the rear is to take a piece of chalk and make a mark on the drive shaftstraight down, then then make a mark on one of the tires straight down. then put hte car in neutral when it is jaked up. spin the tire and count number of time the driveshaft spins for 1 full tire rotation. Say you have 3.55 the drive shaft will spin 3 1/2 times, if you have 4.10 the driveshaft would spin a bit over 4 times.

if you try the search button and you will find what your looking for. m=2.73 , z= 3.08, e= 3.27 (available only in aod cars) its under the AX part of the tag.

i have a 94 cobra, and the tag on my stock rearend dosnt say my ratio, it has a bunch of numbers and leters. i looked in my service manual and it says look under the ax code in ur door sil.
