Who Produces an AOD that...
Hi All,
I'm looking for an AOD for my 1992 Mustang LX that isn't computer controlled and doesn't talk to the ECM at all. I had a 1989 Mazda B2200 pickup that I put a Chevy ZZ3 350/350 into and a Chevy 700 R4 tranny that operated on pressure, only. No computer. Does anyone out there make a Ford AOD tranny that works the same? The people who built the 700 R4 have merged or changed their name, so...I can't find them.

c6,c4 by ford will work the same but do not have overdrive. the 700r4 was a terrible choice ive gone through 5 of then before i finally had a th400 made to fit my truck 700r4s are trash, willl not hold up to any real hp when the truck is hooking up correctly, for towing they are also worhtless, only good for gas milage.

C4's C6's do NOT run on line pressure! They op[erate off of vacuum!
You need an early AOD from say before 86.Try cars like marquis's,T-Birds,Stangs,Fairmonts,Zephyrs,Crown Vics things of that nature.
You really should not have any problems since they put that tranny in about everything back then.

619socalstang,
I'm sorry you had trouble with your 700 R4s. I had mine for 7 years and never had a problem. Of course, I paid $1400 for it 7 years ago. It was a killer tranny behind the Chevy 350/350. Shifted like glass in town and was a real head snapper when I stood on it. Anyhow, I'm done with Chevys. I'm a two Mustang owner, now.

GmKiller,
Sorry. Didn't mean to start an argument. Just want an AOD tranny to replace this 5 speed. I really don't care what it operates on, vacuum, fluid pressure or fairy dust. I'd like something that does NOT rely on computer control to function. I'm hoping that there is group out there that beefs, rebuilds and modifies an AOD that does that. If it can be done to a Chevy 700 R4, I'm certain it can be done to a Ford.
Understand that I'm new to the Mustang and have little experience with it.
Remaining hopeful,
Old John
