my mustang is making a weird noise that seems to be coming from the rear. when it idles a higher pitched humming noise can be heard. any ideas what this could be? thanks guys

that would be your fuel pump.

ohhhhh! is there anything else it can maybe be, or should i bank on this being it. thanks again for your help i appreciate it

when idling i cannot think of one thing it would be. the fuel pump noise is a very common thing on fox mustangs. unless the noise is getting progressively worse, it is completely normal.

how costly of a job are we looking at here, roughly

your looking at about $100 for the pump, and i am not sure about the install fees, but am i guessing it would be a rip off just like every other job that requires labor. it is a pretty easy job, you could probably do it yourself, especially if you have access to lift.

turn your key on but dont start it. your fuel pump should kick on when you turn the key on. then you will be able to see if thats the same noise youve been hearing.
