Default Who is the smartest Engine Guy in here?

Ok so I just went and bought a block from the wreckers, had awesome compression and oil pressure the dudes said it came out of a 85 F-150.....I was told from various people that I can use any block from 79 onwards as they have all have roller cams as well as everything is the same..............WRONG ...............Unless I got a dud!

1)First, I do not have a caliper so I just measured with a tape measure the bore of this engine, and the bore of the my other engine, my orrginal block had just under a 4.0 in bore and this one has a 3'7/8 ths inch bore.

2) This is a flat tappet stye block, and cam.

I can get the engine block numbers, and well my question is this actually a 79 & up 5.0? As well can I make it work?

You won't be able to measure the bore with a tape measure. Also, sometimes you get a ridge just above the top ring in the cylinder bore. The only factory 351w roller capable blocks are the 94-96 or the SVO blocks. The earlier ones can use roller cams but, have to have either a reduced base circle camshaft or a specil lifter (tie bar lifters).

Well I took my old pistons, and there is no chance in fitting them inside this block when the other block fits in easy..... Its clearly smaller! So if I want to run my 5.0 HO cam in it what do I have to do? As well what about this bore difference?

^^^^ Sorry that last one was confussing, I took my H.O pistons and tried to fit them in this wrecker block, and they have no chance in fitting, when they can easily fit in my h.0 block
