When alternator is going or voltage regulator

RE: When alternator is going or voltage regulator
yes, when my alternator went bad, for a short period of time i was running straight off the battery. at about 3500 rpm the car would just bog down. i bought a new alternator, and it felt like a new car.

i just got a boshe from murrays. the systoms came up one day. a day later i was driving and the car started to stutter and stall, and i realized my voltage was gone. i installed the new alternator, and ran like a champ.

RE: When alternator is going or voltage regulator
I don't mean to hijack the thread but I might have the same problem. My engine seems to really crap out about 4500 rpm, and my alternator gauge needle is usually on the low side of "normal" . So is my alternator going out, or is it just the way the 5.0 engine is at high rpms?

the 5.0 may not be a high rpm engine, but it should NOT be crapping out at 4500 rpm. are there anysigns of low voltage? does the engine turn over slower? i noticed that when i had my problem. also, is it the origional alternator? if it is, i cant hurt to buy a new one.

RE: When alternator is going or voltage regulator
The only signs of low voltage are the semilow needle on my alternator guage, which seems to move a bit more than it should. also, it takes a few seconds and the engine turns over a few times before its starts. Thats part of why I'm changing the spark plugs.

the plugs could be your problem. change those and if that doesnt work i would go to fuel pump next. its most likely not your alternator, unless you are seeing obvious signs.
