Default gas mileage

What can I do to improve my gas mileage? Ive driven 11 miles stop and go and ive been turning off the car alot, but my gas mileage has gone from the needle under half a tank to the needle right above the last needle... (sorry if that sounds confusing) On a full tank I got 125 miles.... and i really dont think thats good. I might be running rich, because the car has a strong exhaust smell when ideling... that might be because i have an h pipe with mufflers. so what do you think i should do to bump up my gas mileage?

Check your timing first off, set it 10- 14 im at 12
Upgrade you ignition. , get new plugs, possibly wires, stronger coil, cap and rotor.

Plus if you dont hammer it down youll go a little farther for your money

Haha, Well I drive it safe, but I have fun. I shift around 2k and thats long enough with 3.73's. I have had the car for about a month and a half so I dont even know if its had a tune up in awhile. But A nice one wouldnt hurt, because it does take a few revolutions to start up (sparkplugs)

What brands do you recommend? Im not a fan of the cheap autozone stuff.... I was thinking bosch?

Yeah I do shift early but im trying to save gas because im on a 16 year old budget. I do stretch it to 3 sometimes, but for some reason with my car when im hitting those rpms its good enough... I just need to learn how to power shift and stuff :-p

I'll go up today and check out some autolites. So I need spark plugs, wires, and cap and rotor? I remember looking at my engine and seeing some of the sparkplugs being hard to get to, what do you have to take off?
