I have an '89, always here people talk about removing the air silencer
as a first hp upgrade mod.

What is this? and where is it? do i have one?

Hope this isn't like muffler bearings

The air silencer is a rubber piece that connects to the air box that surrounds your air filter. It goes from the box to inside the fender. Pull up your air box, if it's still there, and you'll see the rubber piece. If the air box has been removed then the air silencer will have been removed as well. If you don't see the rubber piece then someone has already removed it...this is most likely the case.
