My first mustang
I just purchased My first mustang it is a 1990 mustang gt 5.0 5spd 127k. Let me know what the first performance modifications should be. It already has a full exhaust setup so let me know. Ohh and also it grinds sometimes going into reverse. I am new to mustangs but not to tuning cars in general. Also what are some problem areas i should look out for.

yea, put some 3:73 or 4:10 gears in. either one is great gear. then i would upgrade my intake next. get an edelbrock performer or trickflow trackheat, 65mm throttle body and 73mm maf meter. bbk or c&l or k&n cold air intake. then youll be ready for heads and cam.

Definately gears first 3.73 or 4.10. Since the exhaust is there for you I'd do heads and intake together it's a chunk of change but they compliment eachother and you wdon't be doing the same work twice. Watch for 2nd to 3rd grinding it seems to be the weak point in the trans.
Welcome and good luck

RE: My first mustang
since you have a 5 speed... DO NOT run 4.10's if the car is your daily and you do any kind of highway driving. i actually opted to go with 3.55 gears since i do 160 miles highway a week. My car is also going to be getting supercharged so I was looking towards the future with my gear selection.
it sure would suck to have 4.10s, a s/c and trap in 5th gear
3.73's would be closer to the 4th-5th shift point but with 15 psi of boost.... im sure i'll have a high trap speed.
