Default Please help me interpret my first dyno results...

Ok, so Sat I had the opportunity to dyno my car for the first time (it only costed $20 so i HAD to do it). Of course, there were a bunch of imports/ricers there who had trouble cracking 140 HP. So, its my turn and of course, everyone wants to see what "the mustang" runs. My engine is pretty stock (K&N filter and 16 deg. timing are the only "mods" so far) and I've only changed out the exhaust (mac offroad h pipe and flowmasters, no cats).

I got 2 pulls and it showed 216 (1st) and 211HP (2nd) at the wheels, but the torque was 357 both times??? I don't know why the torque is so high b/c the stock torque on a 93 coupe is approx 278.

My car is an AOD and I realized that during the 2 pulls, the guy was running the car in OD instead of drive... so he probably missed some horses, but I can't figure out why the torque is that high.

Later, I found out that the dyno had a bad oxygen sensor, so the readings may have been a little skewed.

Can anyone comment on why my torque is so much higher than my HP and what may be causing that? Thanks.

My buddy had his high perf car dynoed somewhere around here and the guy didn't know exactly what he was doing and cranked out 800lb ft of torque but the horsepower was about right. Sounds like a similar situation.

The samething happened to me when I dynoed my v6. I put down a 165hp and 375ft-lbs of torque. I think it was because I started wide open throttle in second gear.

No, an automatic won't go into OD with the throttle to the floor until you hit probably 110mph (guess), so you didn't lose anything. Have you changed the gears in the rear?

he might have had the shifter in the o/d position, but it is doubtfull that the tranny actually shifted into o/d.

you run the chance of burning up your o/d band if you floor the gas in o/d.

Sounds like the dyno was off maybe. Do you have gears? Did they adjust for them? Also....16* of timing seems really high. Are you running 93 octane?

Was the peak torque right at the beginning of the the graph?
Automatics, with the torque converter have a feature that can multiply torque in the low RPM range, it is not stange to see real high numbers at the beginning of the run and fall off real fast. Some dyno operators will not start the pull until higher RPMs to get past this.

show the graph. ive seen that happen in autos because it down shifted to second for just a second. 211-216 is extremely good hp for your mods.
