Default New Guy with a wheel question

Hi i just wanna introduce myself im Bill and i have a 89 5.0 Lx hatch. Its an automatic for now, it has BBK headers and BBK x pipe and a flowmaster exhaust, other then that its all stock. Ok i know i should be searching but im new on this forum and not sure yet on here but i need to know can i fit a 17" wheel on it without rubbing cause a buddy of mine says that they wont fit without modifications i was really wanting those 17x10 deep dish cobra r wheels they sell on ebay

is the car lowered? if so you will need to modify some stuff, im looking to roll the fenders for my 17x9's

no the car isnt lowered yet i really wanted to lower it about and 1" - 1 1/2" do u guys think that i should stick with 16's?

if it is not lowered than there should be no problem. u have to have smaller tire up front
