PTV Checked (86 Flat Top w 88 H.O Cam & 1.7rr)
Ok I did my clay check last night on my engine, I have no issues at all with the 1.7rr and flat tops, I layed about a .40 layer of clay on the piston and it never even touched the clay at all, thefore I should have plenty of room..........As always you should always check your own engine but I had loads of clearance for my block.... Time to get this bad boy a runnin!

Good deal. What cam is in that thing? I just wan to make a mental note for any future builds I may do. I always check the P/V clearance but this would give me an idea of the types of cams I may be able to try in the stock types of engines. Thanks. NEVER Mind! I should read the title shouldn't I? LOL

Well the block came with whatever regular cam they have in a Grand Marquis 5.0 I have no idea what the difference in numbers are but I know they are different, plus these blocks have e-6's so I was a bit leary as well .

.40 is not enough. You want .80 and .100
You said you laid .40 on the piston and it didn't hit. how do you know your clearance isn't .45? Or .50? Or even .100? Your "test" didn't produce any good info other than you *know* you have .40 clearance.

Nope .080" or more, you may want to re do it or if you figure that's enough for you, then it is...
If you bolted the heads down already you can do a valve drop to check the PTV clearance.

Stupid question, but you did have the pushrods in and the RR's set didn't you? The reason I ask is because I have a buddy that did the clay test and he never put the pushrods in or set the RR's. He spun the the engine over and said he had plenty of room. I quickly told him he needed to redo it.
