Default Looking at buying a 89 5.0 with bad lifters.....

I found a very nice 89 mustang 5.0 with bad lifters for a good price. I was just wondering what kind of price range i will be looking at to fix this problem. Car has headers, intake, cam, exhaust, and 3.73 rear end.... just incase any of that info is needed. Is there any specific problems for the 89's i should look for when buying the car. With the mods listed what kind of quarter mile times should i expect. Thanks in advance for any help with these questions.

*Edit* Will the engine out of a 1991 mercury grand marquis work with this (it has a 5.0 HO also)

if this helps: lifters are about 100 bucks and an intake gasket set is about 30 bucks.

but that's if your just swapping out lifters.

So your not going to try to do it yourself? If not be prepared to spend some major cash to have someone do this for you. Its not that hard at all.... really. You just have to tear everything down until you get to your lifters pull them out, slide new ones in and put it back together.

Its going to take you some time. Just be patient when doing, take pictures, label bolts, etc. Its just all about remembering how to put it back together.

This is just what the owner has told my friend. My friend and the owner of the car are friends, and i have been looking for a foxbody mustang. The owner told my friend that all it needed were lifters and it will be as good as ever. I am going to go look at it tomorrow, what should i check for if it is bad lifters ? I dont know what the symptoms of bad lifters are, so what should i look for too make sure it isn't something else that is more expenisive.

Listen to me, your not going to like what I'm gonna say but listen to me.

First, there are a ton of mustangs out there. Don't be in a hurry to buy the first one you find. And just because he's a "friend" doesn't mean jack. My car was from a "friend" and it had major problems ( 2 bent intake valves, transmission issues, rear axle issues, etc etc). Ofcourse, none that he disclosed to me.

The owner told my friend that all it needed were lifters and it will be as good as ever
If that ALL it needs tell him to fix it and you'll pay the extra $100 for the lifters.

I don't think anyone on a message board can really, accuratly answer that without being there and hearing it/seeing it.

Ask your buddy what the symptoms of bad lifters are. And why does he think it needs lifters..thats a start.
