Little problems with $300 find...
I just got an '89 LX 5.0 with the AOD trans. My dad learned about it from someone at work, and they came over that evening two weeks ago. They showed us the car, and the big dent in the right rear, and my dad and I test drove it. One muffler had fallen off and the other was hanging only from the tail pipe. I removed it today ( not entirely intentionally, but it had to come off anyway). When we drove the car it was very loud, and I saw more cops than usual in my neiborhood, but none of them bothered us. The car ran very well, despite it's lack of power from the lack in exhaust pressure. I felt that the steering wheel had some slack though. It wouldn't respond immediatly(not extreme slack, but the steering wheel turned before the tires did), but as the wheels turned steering was smooth and precise. Is something wrong, or could the steering have been adjusted this way by a previous owner to prevent accidentally oversteering with the Mustang's faster, sports car steering? Another thing is that when the Mustang is running, a faint, barely audible electric buzzing sound comes from the rear, what could that be? Finally, I intend to replace the mufflers with inexpensive ones for now, as the pipes are not rusted, but I want to add aftermarket exhaust once the big dent is fixed (this dent will probably require new sheetmetal and welding). What exhaust should I get? I want it to be the same noise level as stock, but still sound good and offer better performance. I also want something that comes with chromed tailpipes. What does anyone suggest? Here are some pictures of it (needs metallic dark grey paint and silver Pony rims, that will come later).

excelent find! about the steering, it could be the rag joint. those do wear out after a while. you could upgrade while your at it to a solid intermediate shaft and u-joint. for the aftermarket one, im pretty sure that www.maximummotorsports.com has one

Thanks. I'll ask the mechanic about the rag joint and the solid shaft when I bring it to him in the beginning of the week, my dad is insuring the car tomorrow. I figured the buzzing was the fuel pump, but I wasn't sure since I never heard that before. Any ideas on the exhaust? I want low noise but good sound. For now though, standard replacement mufflers, and some chrome paint for the stock tailpipes(it couldn't look that bad, after some sanding and primer).
