I have an 87 lx with a 5.0 h.o. motor out of a 91 Cougar.I found a set of 351 heads that have
never been on an engine...brand new for a hundred bucks.Im sorta new to being a gear head
i was just curious if anyone new the approx. horsepwer increase. My lx is a 5 speed, with the b303 cam, and k&n air filter.
Thanks,Josh

I don't know much about those heads but I believe they have a bigger combustion chamber don't they? Therefore you'll lose power if I am correct.

If they're new you've got a lot of machine work to do, you're better off buying used or slightly used.

I know you can get them for cheap but I would not bother with it. Save your money and get a nice set of GT40's or better yet a good aftermarket set.

you'll probably feel more of a difference from an old set of 289 heads freshened up. They have 58cc combustion chambers which will up your compression a bit from your 5.0 heads. You might drop a couple of horse power, but you'll feel some nice torque gains, and they're relatively cheap around my area. Best thing for you to do if you want some seat of your pants power, then grab some aftermarket heads.

Im going to grab a set of iron world products windsor jr.'s. They come with big runners and 58cc chambers, plus they're a couple hundred cheaper than most other heads. I won't save the weight from aluminum heads, but hopefully the nice flow on em, i won't worry too much about the extra 50 pounds up front.

Yeah i wasnt sure if i should go with these or get an aftermarket set of heads.Just want some more pull...seems like my pony is fast but when im going through the gears and i hit third and get up to 4,500 rpms it seems that somethings holding me up?Ill have the gas to the floor, and ill feel the car pulling like a bat out of hell every once in a while, but most times i feel like im getting held up.Maybe im not getting enough fuel?Just want to make up for the lack of power, i want that pull ALL THE TIME!Not just the 3rd Tues. of every other month lol.

I don't think that you'd get any power increase at all.....
