what a delimma!

RE: what a delimma!
i wouldnt go witha 347, they're more of a all out drag motor. I dont think you'd be happy using it as an everyday driver over a long period of time. i've heard that since the stroke is so long, there is more of a chance of piston/valve contact. i could see it happening if you were at high rpms and had valve float and a piston smacked a valve. thats no good. a 331 doesnt have too much of a difference in power compared to a 347 and i think theyre a lot more reliable. my friend has a 306 cobra motor with a powerdyne super charger on it and it seems to run pretty well. he doesnt usually have any problems with the engine. I was debating this subject a few weeks ago and decided to go with a 331, forged internals, systemax 2 intake, twisted wedge heads, and a p-1sc pro charger. thats what im going with. i've also known a lot of people who just run a stock motor with nitrious or a supercharger and never have problems. its all up to you though.

It a pretty nice difference but think about it your going from 302 cubic inches to 347 so the hp wont be THAT big, now 408 and now your talkin. Like mentioned before look for a 351 and blow it. Good luck.

RE: what a delimma!
gosh, for the first time in my life I have more money than places for it to go!!!
I don't know what I should do. It's like 50% say get a 347, 50% say don't. The ones who say "don't" get a 331, or 306, or even 351...this is so d^mn hard to decide.

So what makes the 347's not "reliable" and not street friendly? Everyone seems to be really into talking about how they aren't reliable, but I want to know why. The new pistons get rid of this by piston ring groves and ring package so that the piston pin bore does not intersect the bottom oil ring grove like the SRP 347 pistons.
Just as much as the reliability issue, I'd like to know why they aren't "good" for a daily driver.
Let me know what you all know, ASAP!

I hate to admit it but before I got my stang I was a chevy guy. So, by default I'm addicted to big motors. I really think if you have the money to go w/ the 351. Spending the same amount of money to build a 306 w/o stroking the 351 you're still going to get a **** ton more power!

RE: what a delimma!
i daily drive my 347 and its a very streetable motor. itll make around 50 hp more than a 306 just from the extra displacment. alot more power potential if youre going to boost it or NO2. im glad i stroked mine out. ive heard people say theyre not reliable but i wanna see some proof besides biased opinions. i mean, if theyre so bad, why do they sell better than a standard 306 rebuild???
