what a delimma!

RE: what a delimma!
that is hard to do bro. but i can tell you i have ran mine down an airport ramp about 30-40 times so far and its still hummin perfect. the more cubic inches you have with boost, the better off you are. i suggest getting a dart racing block, and a lower compression dish piston, 347 stroker kit, holley systemax or tf upper matching set with a custom grind cam ground to suit with a blower. 36lb injectors, 70mm tb, 76mm maf. vortech s-trim blower with about 12-15lbs of boost (forged internals of course). youre looking at 600-750 hp daily driver dude. itll be streetable with a good dynotune and custom burnt chip. youre looking at around 10,000-12,000 if you build it yourself. about 13,000 if you have it done professionally and another 500 for the dynotune. im making guesses in price but im real close in hp. so if youve got that money youll be fast. make sure you mod the suspension good and get good drag radials.

Im seriously losing sleep over this. I don't want a 351 because I'm already set up for a 302 block. I have lots of nice parts to go with this block.
I must make a decision soon.
306/331/347...help!!!!

well, i think if you've got the money, and you want a big displacement engine, i'd say go with a 351. i still think a 347 has too much stroke, but thats just me. I know I would hate to be racing my daily driver and bend a valve or something, and be out of a car for any amount of time. you could buy a 5.8 short block and go from there. i dunno. if you have enough money the options are almost endless. whatever you decide, have fun with it!

Nitrous and a supercharger? Forget the 347, build the strongest 302 bottom end you can and fog the crap out of it to make up the HP of the 302 -vs- 347. Maybe you'll have enough money left for the rest of the stuff you'll be breaking or for your air/fuel system upgrades to feed that beast.

Is it true because of the stroke angle that 347's are hard on rings?

That is the ONLY issue with the 347. The rod angles are pretty steep, and can put some serious side load. Does the effect streetability? If assembled and balanced properly, no. Can it effect reliability? Not in a short term sense.
If you do go 347, be sure to have a reputable shop prep the block, balance the assembly, and install it. A lot of power can be gained or lost in the clearances in the bearings and balancing.

Don't anybody think that a stroker will 'increase the chances of the piston hitting the valve' Either........
Really, how does that happen?
