just loosen the one bolt on the base of the distributor, 1/2" or something like that, and then turn it to wherever you want it. I would suggest getting it done by someone who knows what they're doing that has a timing light though, takes all of 1 minute to do. You want it set to around 14 degrees.

If you have to ask save the money for a timing light and pay a mechanic...

no everyone should learn how to do it.

Steps
1. make sure car is off
2. hook up timing light
3. pull spout connector out
4. take 1/2 wrench and loosen bolt
5. turn car on
6. set timing
7 turn car off
8 tighten bolt
9. take everything off put the spout in and drive.

well thats true... I just know that I would have to pay my mechanic about $10 and he'd do it.... You would only have to see it done once to know how to do it....

what exactly does advancing your timing do? ive heard msd has a kit that you can advance or drop your timing for racing, its a dial or something. but what exactly are you allowing your engine to do or not allowing it to do by adjusting the timing?

Advancing means the spark will ignite the fuel however many degrees before Top dead center. ie 14 degrees : the spark ignites the fuel 14 degrees before the piston hits the top which is why too much timing will start to ping

The best way to learn this is not on a forum, get somebody to show you how to do it
