I just bought my 87 GT about a month ago. I finally a couple hours ago took her to its max speed. I got the stock 85mph speedo, so that was way buried but I found that it wont push 4th gear past 4000 rpms. It has the stock ring and pinion in it 2.73 or the 3.08 whatever? But I have quite a few engine mods. Does this sound right?

if its a stick then its most likely 2.73s. when i top my car out its usually a little past 4000 and then it quits. its cause the stock 302's hp curve starts to drop off past there. you would have to list your mods but with heads/cam/intake it should pull quite a bit farther than that. every car has different drag qualities though, and the GTs have some pretty restrictive body work.

what mods you got cause quite a few doesnt mean much.

definitly NOT 3.08's. i can run 4th gear right to redline and still be able to push 5th even further. 4th tops me out around 120 mph
