Default MAF Effect?

I installed new heads with 1.6 roller rockers on my stang, also had my lower intake ported and polished, put cold air induction on it, and a Comp polymer upper intake. I also put on a new mass air sensor to match my cold air kit!! When I started my car after install this stuff, it started blowing black smoke out of the exhaust!!! I noticed that the Mass air sensor was not plugged in and when it plugged it in ,it had no effect on the way my car idled. My question is with my sensor being unplugged shouldn't my car have idled rougher than hell and would that sensor not working cause my car to run rich causing the black smoke??? If anyone has any advice on what to do about this problem or problems Please let me know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Black smoke is runnign waaaay to much fuel. With the engine not knowing what amount of air is getting sucked in, it went into safe limp mode and went rich as hell to prevent engine damage if something was ary

You should have disconnected the battery and then plugged it in. Try disconnecting the battery now, and plug it back in. Jeep's right on this one, and if anything the car should be running a little bit leaner with the new mods. If the battery thing doesn't work, take it to a speed shop. Or put the old stuff that's easy back on, plug it all in, then redo it again.

I put Mac shorty headers, UPR X-Pipe without cats, and Flowmaster American Thunder exhaust on my car.. The O2 sensors that screw in the x-pipe were black as hell, but I was told that they were still good th use!!! Do you think I need to replace them to solve my problem?? And are those the only O2 sensors that a mustang has???
Thanks for any help!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's see....they're in the exhaust stream getting bombarded by carbon.....you expect them to be anything but black? Odds are they're still good, and you didn't disconnect the battery to re-set the computer.

Yes, I have disconnected the battery to reset the computer. Hell, I did it four or five different times and it still blows black smoke. Would putting an adjustable fuel regulator on do any good because the I would be able to turn the fuel pressure down??????
Thanks for the help!!!!!!
