Hey guys im a new owner and i just bought myself an 89 H.O GT, it has 129k and the engine seemed pretty good when i test drove it "even though it was my first time ever drivin a 5.0*...well on the freeway i noticed that the temp. guage was close to the last bar before the red, and then i smelled coolant and there was steam comin from the engine so i stopped. When i popped the hood, the steam was comin from the reservoir, and the coolant was real real low, possibly empty. The engine also cranks but does not turn over. I also found out that there was a switch for the fan inside the car that the guy did not tell me about. I think that was the main reason for the "overheating"...Could it possibly have damaged the engine and possibly overheated the engine? Could it also be a wet ignition box because water might have possibly touched the MSD coils. Any help on this matter is very helpful. Thanks guys.

Nah you should be fine.....I overheated my car once when my smog pump broke...yea u def overheated cause of not havin fans.....Everythign should be fine...

What do you mean it cranks but does not turn over? They both mean the same thing.. Do you mean the engine is turning but it's not firing? or do you mean the starter is engaging but the engine is not turning?

Check for spark.

Also, if you got antifreeze on the distributer cap, it will screw it up. Usually can't clean them up, it's best to replace.
