yea i was wondering what speedometer gear i should get i am changing from 3.08 gears to 3.73's and from 16" rims to 17 " rims i know they make gears with diffrent amount of teeth per gear ,Which one and where is a good place to get them from Thanx in advanced

Auto or 5 speed?

I know for my 3.55's I needed a 21-tooth white gear, and I think I remember it being the same for the 3.73's....

Hey, on my post above.....I double-checked it and it was the 23 tooth white gear for my T5...My bad

If you want to be sure, just google "speedo gear" and you'll find charts and stuff and you can pick the one you need.

What year is your car? I have an 89 and I just had 3:55's put in, I was told my a dozen people to get a 20 tooth? I have stock wheels, tires, etc. Stock car, 3:55 gears, 5 spd!

I got my gear info from local ford shop, ford racing, internet, speedo gear seller online, mustang mechanic, and a tranny shop? They all told me for my stock 89, i needed a 20 tooth. I do beleive I remember reading that either in 90, or 91 it went to a 21 tooth. Oh yeah, a reminder I have a 5 spd and changed to 3:55's.

First off, what drive gear do you have in your tranny? 7 or 8 tooth? (yellow or green?)

For 7-tooth... in theory you need a 26 tooth gear but, there's no such thing as a 26 tooth gear. You need the 23 which still isn't very good, doesn't mesh well. But that's what you'll need.

For an 8 tooth... in theory you'd need a 30 tooth gear, but I have no idea how big they go with the 8 tooth, probably only 22 or so. So get as big as you can get basically.

Now what you should do: Upgrade to the black 6 tooth drive gear and then you can get a 22 tooth drive gear and it will be correct.
