RE: want to get gears..do i need anything else?
I am used to chevy rearends, but... You should have a 3 series carrier right now if you have anything from 3.00 to 3.99 most likely the stock 3.27. The carrier is basically the big piece the ring gear slides on and the axles go into that actually drive the wheels. You might be able to get a spacer for the ring gear though that'll let you use your current carrier. Anyone who might have more input?...
a rebuild kit replaces bearings, seals, and sleeve. They aren't expensive and might as well if its totally stock since you'll be in there anyway

he's probably getting the parts for a wholesale discount. retail a an eaton from jegs is only 440 from jegs probalby pay like what 350? gears reatail are about 210 from jegs, he'll pay probaly like 150. and 50 for a rebuild kit. so he's making like 350 for his labor. If he's good he could probaly get it doen in and 8 hour, if he really knows what he's doing. So thats 43.75 an hour if esimates were right and it takes him 8 hours.... but even if he did pay full price, he's still making 300 for labor and that's 37.50 an hour. A litle more than the avg. mechanic might make but I don't know if I'd say rip off, especially if you know he's good.
