No they're not, they're right on top of the tranny, go underneath your car and put your hand up to where your shifter is, you'll feel four bolts... I actually have my stock shfiter out and my boot off my tranny, i'll take a pic from inside the car so you can see where they are underneath.

Ok, first picture is the shifter in the car, you can see the 4 bolts on the top, and see that the boot is not in your way. 2nd is a top view of the stock shifter, once again, you can see the boot isn't in the way, 4 1/2" bolts. 3rd is a side view you you can see how it fits in the tranny.

Well then how would I go about getting the shifter out of the car? If I remove the four bolts that bolt the entire shifter to the Trans., then the shifter will be in the car. I will have to tear apart the console to get it out anyways.

Thats a pic of a car with the console deleted. I have the console in, and I dont want to tear up the interior while getting the shifter out.

Are you changing the shifter or something? Otherwise you don't have to take it out of the car, just leave it there. even-so, you could just take the **** off and slide the shifter out of the boot, there's no need to take out the center counsel.

If I unbolt it, it'll just slide out? And then back on when I put the new tranny in? Isn't there something it fits into or something?

Yah, the ball slides into a plastic bushing in the tranny, it's not hard to line-up. Just make sure before you bolt the tranny back up and everything that you did get it into the bushing... i made that mistake once.... had to drop the tranny back down all over again.
