89 Mustang Biggest Tire Size on 17's
Hey guys. I've got an 89 Mustang GT that is completely stock right now. It is low original mileage so I plan on keeping it that way for the most part. One thing that I would like to do is put 17" White 95 Cobra R rims on it. I've located a couple sources for them but I still have a couple questions. Being that the car is an 89, it has the smaller fenders, so what is the biggest tire I can run without rubbing problems? I'm probably going to run 17x8 up front and 17x9 out back if that seems reasonable. 235/40/R17 is what I think I need, but because of the fender differences, I'm not sure what would be the best size. Would it be better to run 17x8's all the way around, or is the 2 sizes ok? Thanks, Kurt

I've got 255/40R 17's on cobra R 17 x 9's rims all the way around with no rubbing problems. I thought they would but they don't.
