Default emissions laws

does any one kno the emissons laws in maryland my dad told me my car will not pass emmissions if i use a carb and a msd ignition his reason is cuz its not using the pactory computer is this true or is he bsing me to try to convince me not to put a 5.0 in my car

MSD ignition is 50 State legal. Was the Car EFI before?

If yes it wont pass I think.

yes it is a 4 banger with efi right now and its toast and i was owunderin if i could get away with doin a carb and msd to save me some money in the budget so i dont have to buy the computer and wirin harneess

Depending on what cam and carb you run...your Dads probably right. It will fail (at least the visual anyway because I doubt you intend to stick converters on it). Now, for the good news. Maryland will waiver your car for one to two years if you can show (after failing the first attempt) a total of $450 (I think) in repairs related to trying to pass the emissions test. This will buy you up to two years to get the wiring harness, computer, cats, and the tune you will need to pass. I had an '85 Capri (started out as a 4cyl, ended as an 11 sec street driven 8 cyl) that I took this route on. Only I never converted it to EFI.

So to answer your question...You are both right.

I had friends that have gotten away with that. Like I said, if they do a visual, it won't matter how low the car is. The 2 stangs I own, only had to pass the t-pipe test because of the wheels. They won't chance damaging them on the rollers.
