RE: Stall Converter
yeah. they help out autos. and ONLY auto's. 5-spd's dont have one. we(5-spd cars), have a flywheel, and clutch. autos have a flex plate and a stall converter. i stall converter is sorta like the "clutch" for an auto. at a certain pressure within the transmission, the fluid causes valves to open/close, opening/closing other valves to use the pressure to cause the engine/transmission/driveline to become one. therefore locking everything up, like a clutch/flywheel combo.
to be effective, theres always a certain rpm depending on the car and what mods it has. there are stall converter only companies who specialize in this. tell them your car, mods, etc, and they can build you a stall converter for your exact application to get the most/best use out of it.

RE: Stall Converter
with a good custom converter you can drop .4-.7 seconds in the 1/4mile. but after you put in a custom converter you will need good tires to hook up. or you will just spin through first gear.
