do you know anything about the engine¿ unfortunately, you probably have the d9 heads. they are the ultimate in crapaliciousness. if stock, you also have a 2 barrell carb. the other unfortunate is the horrible flowing exhaust manifold. , if you are looking to put money into it, it can be fast, but thats a few grand down the road. with some new aluminum heads, intake manifold and a carb with some long tube headers tho, you will be noticably faster and about 100-150 pounds lighter under the hood.

as for your question, i would shift at 4500, if you are even making power up to that range, i dont know. your best bet is to have it dynod. then you know for a fact when your power peaks

in a safe place , with the car in 1st or 2nd open it wide open & watch your tach, when the car quits pulling hard notice the rpms, you need to shift BEFORE it quits pulling hard. this should be before 6250 rpm. good luck.

please do not take this car over 6000 unless you know it is not stock. 5000 would be pushing it. if you do you may well damage it.

like i said , shift when it quits PULLING HARD. if this car is stock it will NOT pull to 6250. if it is NOT stock do not go past 6250. if your engine is in good condition it should NOT harm it as you do this & THEN you would know where you shift points are when you drag. good luck.

the odometer says 67,000kms but its been wrapped once so 167,000 kms. The guy I bought it from said he rebuilt the motor 30,000kms ago. And it runs and shifts great. Could use some new shocks. but its got brand new rubber 275/50. Its got some headers on it and flowmaster exhuast, i think it has a K&N too. My dad has an 87 corvette lt350, and im more than sure i could beat him off the line if i could hook up. but it spins like mad. handles fairly nimble, i love driving it. my daily driver.

All depends on mileage and shape of car.You dont really want to beat on a high mileage car.
