It's just something to check and rule out. It's the pump that makes the noise. Something to try. While someone is cranking the engine, bang the bottom of the bottom of the tank w/ a rubber mallet and see if it starts. If it does, you need a pump. You could still need one but this s an easy thing to try.

One way to test if the fuel is still good is to light it on fire. If it burnes and or explodes it should be able to start the car.

Well, I'm happy to look like a moron and report that the car started after resetting the Inertia switch (DOH!) - thanks for the advice everyone, and the switch comment Fun5.0.
