STRAIGHT PIPES? YES or NO? 89 GT Convt.
Hi,
I have an 89 mustang gt convertible. It is basically stock. It does have a CAI. I dont plan to do anythign drastic to the performance right now. Interior & Exterior to perfection first.
Anyways, what will straight pipes do to the performance of my car, low end? The exhaust is stock 2.25".
I have had 6 new dodge rams in the past 4 years. One was the 5.9 liter, one 4.7, and the rest were hemi's. I tried straight pipes on all different trucks. The 5.7 it worked, sounded good. The 4.7 didnt sound good, and the hemi lost low end. The hemi can lose low end with too little back pressure. I honestly dont know much about the need for back pressure, or lack there of on my mustang.
On this old mustang, stock car, stock exhaust will I lose low end with straight pipes? Does anyone have a sound clip? I had straights on my last 4.6L Mustang, it sounded and ran fine. Please help with sound clips, and testimonials. Thanks.

Sorry,
I should have been more clear. I am saying use 100% of the stock exhaust, except cut the mufflers out and put in a straight pipe for each one? What would that sound like, how woudl that affect performance. I am not looking for perfomance gains, just dont want to lose low end.

I know someone on this forum was able to remove mufflers and still retain the same low end numbers, but then again, his pipes were no longer straight =p

I never mentioned that mufflers would cause low end power loss. I was asking about straight pipes.
Also, I dont want straight pipes for any reason accept on my 96 4.6L it sounded good. No cackle, no pops. It is also a lot cheaper than the over price mufflers, which most are straight through anyways. So I wanted to know why not just put in a piece of pipe, rather than pay 100 each for a straight through muffler?
