Gear swap and axle bearing/seals?

RE: Gear swap and axle bearing/seals?
If they put the car on the lift and pull the cover at 500 miles. They need to take off wheels, pull off drums, remove cross pin, remove C clips, and then pull the axles. It's probably half an hour work more than if they did it when the first time if they are good. Try to negotiate a deal if you'll have the fluid changed out after break in. If you don't have it done when they swap the gears, at least they got a second shot at charging you to do the axles and for the fluid change.

I just did my ring and pinion myself last week. I'll go the three 10 minute drive cycles with cool down in between and change it at 500. But that's just me. I'm a little **** when it comes to stuff like that. Don't want fresh metal from the new gears breaking in my oil. Since I do it myself, the cost to change the oil at 500 is less than the cost of potential problems.

Red GT, what subframe connectors are you waiting to put in? I got the Ford racing connectors off Ebay for a steal and paid the going rate for the seat brackets. I have'nt compared to other brands but the Ford Racing units seem pretty beefy.

That's insanity. Since you're doing a gear swap, changing the bearing and seals is a walk in the park compared to setting up the carrier and also take an extra oh maybe 20 minutes, trust me. To change the axle seals and bearings while doing the gear swap is easy. Yoyu slide hammer the old bearing out after prying the old seal out then pound the new bearings in and install the new seal. If I make it sound easy, it's becasue it is.
An extra $140 to do that is just them taking advantage of you.

On another note, I bet there just compunding the labor rates on top of the gear swap. Like the micthell labor rate book has estimated times for certain jobs. I bet the took the time of the gear swap then looked up the time to do the bearings and seal and just added it on, BS>>>>

Still less even w/ shipping added in. Look, it's your money, but they are poking you. Ask them for a big kiss when they are done!!! And litterally, it will take 5 min/side to do the bearings and seals. The entire brake down of the rear takes less than 30 min for a pro to do it. You are basically paying for what they know, not how much they are doing. Like I said in the begining, their price seems high!!
